Here's a rough outline of what I'll be looking for in your essay:
I. Intro (5-8 Sentences)
A. Hook/Grabber
B. General Statements - quickly introduce your topic
C. Thesis - one sentence; a preview of what's to come (make a claim and support it)
II. Historical Context
A. What was going on that led to the speech?
B. Intended Audience
C. Introduce the purpose of the speech
III. Language and Structure
A. Word Choice (you may want to choose a specific quote or passage from your speech to discuss how the words chosen contribute to the effectiveness of the speech)
B. Mood/Tone
C. Structure
IV. Purpose/Impact
A. Discuss the purpose of the speech.
B. Was the purpose met? How so?
C. What was the lasting impact as a result of the speech?
V. Conclusion
A. Restate your thesis
B. Summarize your main ideas
C. Kicker/Lasting impression
